Hold the puppy down gently with one hand. Pinch the tip of the cord with your thumb and forefinger with a piece of gauze between them and apply pressure for 5 minutes. Sprinkle corn starch (just run to the grocery and buy some) over the wound, apply some more pressure. Wrap the end in guaze and secure with a rubber band or medical tape. Wait for the bleeding to stem, place puppy back with mom to keep him warm.

Call your vet and ask for verbal advice, as this may be considered an emergency if it continues to bleed much longer. If thats not possible right now- follow these guidelines in the meantime:
tie a piece of dental floss above the bleed. . Pepper is also known to stop bleeding but only try it if tying off doesnt work
