There must be an equal TORQUE or MOMENT on both sides of the centre of mass.
ie sum (mx) on one side must equal sum(MX) on the other side.

if there are just two objects involved Of different masses, then the position of the centre of mass will be closer to the heavier object and further from the lighter one such that the moments are equal.
