That is why they created an ATM. You can deposit your check 24/7 and have the funds available in the same amount of time the teller can give you.
If you deposit it on Saturday at the branch, the funds are still not available until Monday.
Its another option you may want to consider.
I m going to make it real simple for you guys. First off, I work for a bank. We close (early) for many reasons, but I will tell you the main ones.
1. Daylight Savings Because of this, in the fall daylight is preserved and it is dark out around 6 p.m. Banks are more vulnerable to threat when it is dark outside.
2. Proofing Our computers scan every transaction to prove that it is correct. This takes awhile.
3. Services The bank offers many services, which is why it is open so early usually more traffic happens in the morning versus the afternoon. If we stay open longer it would lose the bank money because we get less business in the afternoon.
They save money on staff and force you to use their inexpensive (for them only) ABMs and internet banking.

B/c we work too : ) I would suggest using the ATM for deposits. If you need it on the same day a lot of machines cut off an hour after next day. You can also use night deposit. TRUST me it all gets posted the same day no matter if you deposit after next day business or right at cut off time. Example: After school you make a deposit at 4:30pm. There is no difference in getting your deposit to the bank on Saturday or even at 3:30 Monday afternoon. They are all on NEXT DAY BUSINESS DAY. No need to rush it all goes in at the same time. We have to have a cut off time or close early or HEAVEN forbid on a holiday off b/c the Federal Reserve has hours of operation as well. If you are concerned about making sure your checks get paid that come through your account. try Overdraft protection. Or my number 1 rule: DONT WRITE CHECKS IF YOU DONT HAVE THE MONEY! I think its because they don t want to pay for the extra employees that it would take to keep the institution open
Try a new bank. Dont know if you have Commerce bank where you are but they stay open late.

Yes it really a pain in the that they close so early but I guess they dont want to take any chances for them being rob or something..
They have lots of things to do with balancing out their cash drawers, drawing money for the next day, completing the paperwork (computer docs) for the days transactions, etc. The banks employees normally will not leave the building before 5:00 pm themselves just because of all of the followup work that has to be done after they close the doors. When you complete transactions after 3:00 pm on Friday, the transactions are normally not posted until Mondays work is completed because the books for Friday are already being closed. Fridays extended hours are for businesses that need change/cash for the weekend or want to make a deposit so the money/cash isnt at the business location over the weekend.
I dont know where you live, but in my area, my bank is the last business to close Monday Friday and the only business open on Saturdays! Why should I miss out on time with my family because you wont get your out of bed to go to the bank You can make your deposit at the ATM if you have an ATM card. You can mail your deposit to the bank, unless its cash. On top of those options, you can even put your deposit in an envelope and put it in the night drop box which is o-d Monday thru Friday.
If those arent enough options for you then I think you really need to reorganize your priorities.
